Phillips 66

The first Phillips 66 station in Wichita, Kansas

Founded in 1917, Phillips 66 began as the Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The first Phillips 66 service station opened in 1927 in Wichita, Kansas which still stands today, preserved by the local historical society.

Logos

1927 – 1920

This first logo appeared in late 1927, around the time Phillips 66 opened their first service station in Wichita, Kansas.

1930 – 1960

The iconic Phillips 66 shield logo was introduced in 1930 and used until the 1950s.

1960 – Present

Designed by Lippincott & Margulies, the current Phillips 66 Logo has been in use since 1960.

Station Styles

Phillips 66 introduced the long-standing tradition of tudor cottage style service stations with their first station in 1927. Over the years, Phillips 66 built more than five hundred stations in this cottage styles. The most common of these was the “Standard Type B” station.

Less than a hundred of these stations survive today, many of which stand vacant. According to the National Parks Service, only one still serves as a functioning gas station in O’Donnell, Texas.
